Temperature measurement of fine wires by photothermal radiometry

چکیده
This work reports temperature measurement of fine wires using the photothermal radiometry ~PTR! technique. In this method, a laser is employed to create a small periodic temperature perturbation on the wire and thus a small modulation of the thermal emission signal from the wire. The temperature of the wire is derived from the ratio of the photothermal emission signals at two different wavelengths. Temperature measurement is performed on an electrically heated metallic wire of 127 mm in diameter. A calibration procedure is developed to account for the emissivity difference at the two signal wavelengths. The measured temperatures by the PTR technique are in good agreement with the thermocouple readings at different laser modulation frequencies. The possibility of extending the technique to optical fibers is discussed based on Mie scattering theory. Calculations suggest that the PTR technique can be used to measure temperature of optical fibers during the fiber drawing process by choosing an appropriate excitation laser and the signal wavelengths. © 1997 American Institute of Physics. @S0034-6748~97!04511-5#

Hand-held pulsed photothermal radiometry system to estimate epidermal temperature rise during laser therapy.
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE During laser therapy of port wine stain (PWS) birthmarks in human skin, measurement of the epidermal temperature rise (DeltaT(epi)) is important to determine the maximal permissible light dose. In order to measure DeltaT(epi) on a specific PWS skin site, we developed an AC-coupled hand-held pulsed photothermal radiometry (PPTR) system, which overcomes the in vivo measurement ...

Noninvasive glucose monitoring will greatly improve diabetes management. We applied Wavelength-Modulated Differential Laser Photothermal Radiometry (WM-DPTR) to noninvasive glucose measurements in human skin in vitro in the mid-infrared range. Glucose measurements in human blood serum diffused into a human skin sample (1 mm thickness from abdomen) in the physiological range (21-400 mg/dl) demon...
